There are three future battles that God will intervene. There are other periods in history where God this also, such as the Long Day of Joshua and when walls came down at Jericho as read in Joshua 5:13 through Joshua 6:27. Before proceeding, read Ezekiel 38, Ezekiel 39, Revelation 9 and Revelation 20 to hear what God has prophesized against Gog and Magog which references two events:
Category | Details | ||
1 | First Gog and Magog Event | An invasion attempt of Israel from a confederacy of countries, being led by a country to the north of Israel before the start of the 70th Week of Daniel. The 70th Week of Daniel is a seven-year period:
(a) | Of three and one-half years of a false peace followed by
(b) | Three and one-half years of horrible judgments by God against the Earth called the Tribulation Period.
The scriptural passages of Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39, which was written approximately 2,600 years ago, is the primary scriptural source information passages and is a very interesting proof of the scriptures naming events that will happen.
(c) | There are two extra period of days in Daniel 12:11-12 which describe an unknown period which God has assigned for a special purpose, which can only be speculated.
2 | First Armageddon Event | See topic on Armageddon
3 | Second Gog and Magog Event and Second Armageddon Event | It is the last battle attempt by Lucifer, which occurs after the Millennial Kingdom of Jesus Christ. See Revelation 20:7-10. Lucifer deceives the nations from the "four corners of the Earth" for a very brief period to come against God.
(a) | This second Gog and Magog Event after the Millennial Kingdom, has an undetermined amount of days
(b) | This second event is also known as the Second Armageddon Event.
(c) | The requirement of days, is of course known by God, where it can be theorized it is enough for the gathering under Gog and Magog, which was orchestrated by Lucifer after Lucifer's release from chains as read in Revelation 20:7-9. |
Note that some Biblical Commentaries have the timing of the First Event, the Invasion attempt by Gog and Magog against Israel, with two different placements in the timing of when the Rapture event happens.
It is important to consider the Rapture event because of the severity and magnitude of the first prophetic Gog and Magog event. There is two questions and the answer to determine from the scriptures dealing when the Rapture event occurs in relation to the first Gog and Magog invasion event:
Many Biblical Commentaries, that this author agrees with, have:
This means the First Event, Gog and Magog invasion attempt of Israel, is separate and at its end, will be the start of the 70th Week of Daniel. These are the primary reasons of many:
Ezekiel 38:13 | Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil? |

Understanding the Powers of the Satanic World is important when understanding Gog and Magog.
The following is an excerpt from the topic on
Fallen Angels and
Demons: Ephesians 6:12 and other scriptural references let us know that there is a ruling hierarchy and ranking in the Fallen Angels and Demons that are under the leadership of Lucifer. This an idiom of ranking in authority, power and evil. In Daniel 10:13, we are given an example of the leadership in the Satanic unseen world when the Angel Gabriel has assistance from the Angel Michael in the restraint from the Satanic Angel in charge of the Persia which is called the "king of Persia". In some places the Satanic Fallen Angel can be called and compared to a King or a Prince Lucifer is always trying to emulate God, where God also has His Princes such as Michael as show also in the Daniel 10:13 reference. Our King is God as read in many, many scriptural examples.
Note that there is inferences in the scriptures on events that show that Lucifer's control and leadership does not appear to be absolutely followed, while still all Fallen Angels and Demons are unified by their rebellion against God. As an example of derision and/or not sharing absolutely the same goals where Lucifer does not necessarily have supreme authority:
|
Regarding the Satanic Realm:
In the scriptures, there is the pattern where God uses at least two confirming scriptures to verify a meaning on all topics, which is important regarding the identity of Gog and Magog.
The primary scriptural texts dealing with Gog and Magog are in Ezekiel 38, Ezekiel 39 and Revelation 20 where a subset of the chapters is listed next for identification purposes used throughout this document.
As discussed in a previous section of this topic on the Satanic Hierarchy, there are Kings and Princes that are used as an idiom of ranking in authority, power and evil.
Notice in the scriptural passages which deal directly and primarily against Gog and those who are with Gog which is Magog. Magog is primarily identified as the land territories, but there is also the reference of Magog territories being under a Satanic Prince. There are more key scriptural verses than the ones listed, where these 10 points are the highlights of identifying Gog, Magog and God's Fury against Gog.
Here are the points, with number reference, to the scriptural passages listed next:
1 | Ezekiel 38:1-3 | 1 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, set thy face toward Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3 and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal: |
2 | Ezekiel 38:4-6 | 4 and I will turn thee about, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed in full armor, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them handling swords: 5 Persia, Cush, and Put with them, all of them with shield and helmet; 6 Gomer, and all his hordes; the house of Togarmah in the uttermost parts of the north, and all his hordes; even many peoples with thee. |
3 | Ezekiel 38:14-16 | 14 Therefore, son of man, prophesy, and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: In that day when my people Israel dwelleth securely, shalt thou not know it? 15 And thou shalt come from thy place out of the uttermost parts of the north, thou, and many peoples with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company and a mighty army; 16 and thou shalt come up against my people Israel, as a cloud to cover the land: it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring thee against my land, that the nations may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes. |
4 | Ezekiel 38:18 | And it shall come to pass in that day, when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord Jehovah, that my wrath shall come up into my nostrils. |
5 | Ezekiel 38:19-23 | 19 For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; 20 so that the fishes of the sea, and the birds of the heavens, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground. 21 And I will call for a sword against him unto all my mountains, saith the Lord Jehovah: every man s sword shall be against his brother. 22 And with pestilence and with blood will I enter into judgment with him; and I will rain upon him, and upon his hordes, and upon the many peoples that are with him, an overflowing shower, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. 23 And I will magnify myself, and sanctify myself, and I will make myself known in the eyes of many nations; and they shall know that I am Jehovah. |
6 | Ezekiel 39:1-2 | 1 And thou, son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal: 2 and I will turn thee about, and will lead thee on, and will cause thee to come up from the uttermost parts of the north; and I will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel; |
7 | Ezekiel 39:6 | And I will send a fire on Magog, and on them that dwell securely in the isles; and they shall know that I am Jehovah. |
8 | Ezekiel 39:11 (part) | And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place for burial in Israel, the valley of them that pass through on the east of the sea; |
9 | Ezekiel 39:12-20 | 12 For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land. 13 Even all the people of the land will bury them; and it will be to their renown on the day that I glorify Myself, declares the Lord God. 14 They will set apart men who will constantly pass through the land, burying those who were passing through, even those left on the surface of the ground, in order to cleanse it. At the end of seven months they will make a search. 15 As those who pass through the land pass through and anyone sees a man s bone, then he will set up a marker by it until the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog. 16 And even the name of the city will be Hamonah. So they will cleanse the land. 17 As for you, son of man, thus says the Lord God, Speak to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field, Assemble and come, gather from every side to My sacrifice which I am going to sacrifice for you, as a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh and drink blood. 18 You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, as though they were rams, lambs, goats and bulls, all of them fatlings of Bashan. 19 So you will eat fat until you are glutted, and drink blood until you are drunk, from My sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. 20 You will be glutted at My table with horses and charioteers, with mighty men and all the men of war, declares the Lord God. |
10 | Ezekiel 39:15-16 | till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog. 16 And Hamonah shall also be the name of a city. Thus shall they cleanse the land. |
11 | Revelation 20:7-9 | 7 And when the thousand years are finished, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8 and shall come forth to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to the war: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9 And they went up over the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down out of heaven, and devoured them. |
As described in a few Biblical Commentaries, Gog is the highest ranking of the Fallen Angels under Lucifer over:
1 | The Invasion battle attempt against Israel before the Tribulation Period. | God intervenes to fight for Israel. There is no battle as God destroys the armies. |
2 | The last battle attempt against God at the end of the Tribulation Period that is at the place called Har-Magedon, which is the First Armageddon Event. | No battle happens, as Jesus Christ appears in the air on a White Horse and uses the power of His Word to destroy all there. |
3 | The last battle attempt on Earth against God at the end of the Millennial Kingdom that is surrounding Jerusalem, which is the Second Armageddon Event. | No battle happens, as God uses Fire from Heaven to destroy all there. |
There are two possibilities concerning any additional information regarding more of Gog's identity:
Not Correct | Nothing else is known on Gog besides the information in Ezekiel 38, Ezekiel 39 and Revelation 20 |
Correct | There are a few other scriptures that identify Gog with more details |
A few Biblical Commentaries, which this author agrees, believe the following cumulative theory of four parts on the identification of Gog:
The items #3 and #4 are based on three scriptural passages of Amos 7:1, Revelation 9:1-11 and Proverbs 15:11, where the link is the identification of the Satanic Locusts that sting after being released from Lower Sheol and their king is Gog.
With only a few exceptions in the scriptures, there is always confirming additional scriptures that will interpret and confirm other scriptures, where the "locusts" and "Sheol" are the two key links between the three scriptural passages of Amos 7:1, Revelation 9:1-11 and Proverbs 15:11:
|
The Locust references in the scriptures are usually an idiom for loss from incorrect living or negative judgment, as read in Joel 2:25. When reading Joel 2:25, it is clear that the insect locusts did not eat years from Israel, but took away from the blessing of God from the life of a person and a nation.
Joel 2:25 | I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm my great army that I sent among you. |
Note that there are some Biblical Commentaries that incorrectly state a conflict with Amos 7.1's reference to Gog when compared to Proverbs 30:27 that states locust have no king. Careful reading of the surrounding text of Proverbs 20:27 state the context of verse 27 is about four things that are little on the earth that are exceedingly wise, then speaks about large animals. Therefore, Proverbs 30:27 does not change Amos 7:1.
Proverbs 30:27 (Incorrectly applied to Gog.) |
24 There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise: 25 The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer; 26 The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks; 27 The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands; 28 The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces. 29 There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going: 30 A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any; 31 A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up. |
An additional ambiguous note reference, that has nothing to do with Gog the Satanic Prince and King is in 1st Chronicles 5:3-4, which is merely a reference to the name of the son of Shemaiah. We do not know if the land that Gog the son of Shemaiah inhabited was any of the lands of the Ezekiel 38 and 39 prophecies.
1 Chronicles 5:3-4 | 3 the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. 4 The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son, |
Note: Some may argue that identifying Gog as both a prince with Magog and the Satanic Locust King of the Abyss is a problem. This is not a problem in this author's opinion as Fallen Angels cannot be contained in the Bottomless Pitt (Sheol) unless they are in chains according to scriptural references, which means Lucifer can have emissaries going in/out that might include some sort of harassment of human-beings that are in lower Sheol. |
There is an interesting comparison and identification of Locusts in Revelation Chapter 9, which is a possible key reference to identifying more about Gog.
Most Biblical Commentaries are correct in regarding Revelation 9:3 identify of the "locusts" as not a common locust of any kind that is on the Earth in the past or now. The locusts of Revelation 9:3-4 are part of the judgments during the Tribulation Period.
Revelation 9:3-4 | 3 And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was said unto them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only such men as have not the seal of God on their foreheads. |
God does use patterns in the scriptures and there is an overwhelming use of common idioms that prove the consistent use of the idioms authenticates the sixty-six books, written by over forty authors and thousands of years, has its source outside of our time-domain. There is statistically and absolutely no way the authors conspired with one another to always use the same idioms.
Incorrect Association about the Locusts with the Events of the Israel Exodus performed by Moses
Unfortunately, there are some Biblical Commentaries that mention the plaques of the Egyptian captivity are exactly parallel to the Seven Bowl Judgments of the Tribulation Period. There are parallels, but the locusts coming out of the Bottomless Pit of Sheol are not the same from Moses obtaining Israel's release from Egyptian captivitiy.
The difference is the Exodus event is an insect that eats green leaves from plants, and the other is to only to sting humans that are not marked with Salvation. The locust in Revelation 9:4 have power like a scorpion to cause pain for five months, and are not allowed to hurt any green growing plant or tree.
Exodus 10:14-15 | 14 they invaded all Egypt and settled down in every area of the country in great numbers. Never before had there been such a plague of locusts, nor will there ever be again. 15 They covered all the ground until it was black. They devoured all that was left after the hail everything growing in the fields and the fruit on the trees. Nothing green remained on tree or plant in all the land of Egypt. |
Some key parts identified by the Locusts of Revelation 9:
Revelation 9:3 | 1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven fallen unto the earth: and there was given to him the key of the pit of the abyss. 2 And he opened the pit of the abyss; and there went up a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was said unto them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only such men as have not the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 And it was given them that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when it striketh a man. 6 And in those days men shall seek death, and shall in no wise find it; and they shall desire to die, and death fleeth from them. 7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared for war; and upon their heads as it were crowns like unto gold, and their faces were as men s faces. 8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing to war. 10 And they have tails like unto scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their power to hurt men five months. 11 They have over them as king the angel of the abyss: his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek tongue he hath the name Apollyon. |
In Pain for Five Months and Seeking Death
There are two interesting and horrible consequence of being stung by the Satanic locusts of Revelation 9:
Some Biblical Commentaries have written and wondered how a person would seek death and not be able to commit suicide. The most-likely two possibilities is the sting will inflict so much pain:
As a minor comparison there are some diseases, such as Multiple Sclerosis, which can leave a person in the last stages of the illness to not be able to move easily.
A Link to Gog with the Locusts of Revelation 9
In the previous section of this topic, the theoretical identity of the Satanic Locusts King, besides Abaddon and Apollyon, is possibly Gog.
The location of the locusts coming out of the Abyss, which is also known as Lower Sheol, gives the possibility link that this author has not read in any Biblical Commentary or heard anywhere with the following questions and explanations. This author's theory is discussed with the two following questions and the possible theoretical answers based on scriptures.
Revelation 9:1-3 | 1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw
a
star from heaven fallen unto the earth: and there was given to him the
key of the pit of the abyss. 2 And he
opened the pit of the abyss; and there went up a smoke out of the pit,
as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened
by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And
out of the smoke came forth
locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, as the
scorpions of the earth have power. Note: The "star from heaven fallen" is a Fallen Angel |
Revelation 9:11 | They have over them as king the angel of the abyss: his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek tongue he hath the name Apollyon. |
When Sheol (upper and lower) was created, it had two scriptural known purposes:
Note all those in lower Sheol will appear at the
Great White Thrown of Judgment, so both upper and lower Sheol will
eventually be empty. All those that are judged at the Great White
Thrown of Judgment will be sent to the
Lake of Fire for Eternity.
Sheol will no longer exists, after the Great White Thrown of Judgment, as the entire Universe will be destroyed as read in 2 Peter 3:1-13, and a new Heavens and Earth will be created. Many Biblical Commentaries state that the description of Sheol being a bottomless-pit or abyss, Revelation 9:1 and others, identifies Sheol being in the center of the earth were all directions from the location point up and there is no bottom. |
Two questions to consider:
Note that the scriptures seem to indicate that unlike human-beings and Nephilim that die, Fallen Angels can come and go from Sheol unless they are chained in the imprisonment as explained in the section topic, "Can Lucifer and Fallen Angels (currently) enter and exit from Sheol?" of the Hell topic. |
Some scriptural points to consider that may give us the possibility of the identity of the Locusts:
1 Peter 3:18-20 | 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, 19 in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, 20 because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. |
2 Peter 2:4-5 | 4 For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and committed them to chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 5 and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; |
Matthew 8:29-31 | 29 And behold, they cried out, What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time? 30 Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them. 31 And the demons begged him, saying, If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs. |
Isaiah 14:9-12 | 9 Sheol from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? 11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! |
Matthew 8:23-26 | 23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. 24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. 25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. 26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. |
Taking into consideration the Fallen Angels that participated in the creation of the Nephilim were condemned to Tartarus, which is also known as Sheol and the Abyss by Biblical Commentaries, is there the possibility the locusts of Revelation 9 are those Fallen Angels in the form of a hybrid locust:
This is excerpt parts from the
Fallen Angels and Demon
topic: Excluding Demons, Fallen Angels and Lucifer possessing human-beings, there are at least five scriptural references of Fallen Angels taking forms or manifestations of evil as something appearing as animal, or a Demons taking possession of an animal.
|
As discussed in the "Who is Gog?" portion of this topic who is
described as the King of the Grasshoppers, therefore this author and
some Bible Commentaries theorize the possibilities of the locusts of
Revelation are the imprisoned Fallen Angels of 2 Peter
4-5 (listed above) as part of the Tribulation
Period's Bowl Judgments. This author's theory is these Fallen Angels
have their body changed as part of their punishment. These imprisoned Fallen Angels, which involves spiritual chains, would be still be subject to and under a high-ranking Fallen Angel where the key verse is Revelation 9:1. The High Ranking Fallen Angel is Gog.
|
As read from the earlier parts of this topic, and other topics such as Fallen Angels and Demons, the Satanic World is set up with a hierarchy of command under Lucifer (Ephesians 6:12). Magog in the scriptural references is described as land and country areas with a ruling Fallen Angel.
These land and country areas are given with the names at the time of the scriptural writings, that can be given the modern-day names. The modern-day country names do have Satanic Ruling Fallen Angels assigned to them, according to the scriptures, just like there was/is a Fallen Angel in charge of Persia, which is modern-day Iran, as read in Daniel 10:13.
Daniel 10:13 | But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. |
Michael, in scriptural passages, is one of God's Archangels that is always assigned in roles of combat with Satanic Forces in the scriptures.
The first Magog Event is described in Ezekiel 38 and Ezekiel 39
Ezekiel 38:1-6 | 1 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshek and Tubal; prophesy against him 3 and say: This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshek and Tubal. 4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. 5 Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops the many nations with you. |
Ezekiel 38:14-15 | 14 Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog: This is what the Sovereign Lord says: In that day, when my people Israel are living in safety, will you not take notice of it? 15 You will come from your place in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army. |
Ezekiel 39:1-2 | 1 Son of man, prophesy against Gog and say: This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshek and Tubal. 2 I will turn you around and drag you along. I will bring you from the far north and send you against the mountains of Israel. |
The countries identified are known from their ancient names, which are all descendants from Noah as read in Genesis 10:1-8. Perhaps one of the most famous of the descendants of Noah is the first world ruler, Nimrod who started an astrological based religion against God at the tower of Babel that becomes Babylon, which is important in additionally identifying with Cush.
Genesis 10:1-8 | 1 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, namely, of Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. 2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. 3 And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah. 4 And the sons of Javan: Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. 5 Of these were the isles of the nations divided in their lands, every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations. 6 And the sons of Ham: Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan. 7 And the sons of Cush: Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah: Sheba, and Dedan. 8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. |
Identification of the ten areas is listed in the following table with the generally established geographical areas identified in the verses Ezekiel 1-6:
1 | Magog | a) Greek name is
Scythians. b) Hesiod, known as the father of Greek didactic poetry, names Magog to be the Scythians who occupy the area known today as southern Russia. b) Herodotus, known as the father of History, wrote a great deal about the descendants of Magog as the Scythians in the 5th Century BC. |
2 | Meshech / Rosh / Ros | Georgian and Armenians areas below modern-day Russia. |
3 | Tubal | Tribes living / dwelling around the areas of the Black Sea, west of Meschech tribal areas. |
4 | Persia | Modern-day Iran. See also notes below on Elam, which is later part of Persia and then Iran. |
5 | Cush | Is modern-day area of Ethiopia |
6 | Put / Phut | Is modern-day area of Libya, Egypt and parts and regions going down to Ethiopia |
7 | Gomer | a) Biblical Historians identify them as the
Cimmerians who were contemporaries to the Scythians and inhabited
areas north of
Caucasus and
Black
Sea, which is modern-day Ukraine and Russia. b) Other Biblical Historians, through other information on the Cimmerians, inform us that the decedents of Gomer settled into modern-day Germany and some other Eastern European country areas, which might include modern-day Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belarus, Croatia, Slovakia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Montenegro. |
8 | House of Togarmah | Armenia and Trukic Tribal Areas. Turkic peoples are either or both the modern-day Georgians or Turkish peoples. |
9 | Armies of the North Ezekiel 38:14-15 Ezekiel 39:1-2 |
Uttermost parts of the north of the Holy City of Jerusalem, is modern-day Russia, which may be an additional reference to country areas shown below in the map as highlighted with light-green. |
10 | many nations with you | This can thus include other nations in the Middle East, North Africa and East Europe which some Biblical Scholars identify as countries of Muslim majority. |
(Note: map given as a comparison. Used in the topic on
the "Three Kings Visit Baby Jesus
Christ?" topic.)
Notes on the Ezekiel 38's territorial armies:
Ezra 4:8-10 | 8 Rehum the commanding officer and Shimshai the secretary wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king as follows: 9 Rehum the commanding officer and Shimshai the secretary, together with the rest of their associates the judges, officials and administrators over the people from Persia, Uruk and Babylon, the Elamites of Susa, 10 and the other people whom the great and honorable Ashurbanipal deported and settled in the city of Samaria and elsewhere in Trans-Euphrates. |
Daniel 8:2 | In my vision I saw myself in the citadel of Susa in the province of Elam; in the vision I was beside the Ulai Canal. |
Genesis 2:13-14 | 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. |

Genesis 10:2 | 2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshek and Tiras. |

As discussed earlier in this topic, some Biblical Scholars believe as this author does, that the invasion attempt against Israel will proceed before the 70th Week of Daniel starts.
The language in the Ezekiel 38 and 39 chapters is using language from that period of history regarding the vernacular from that day especially dealing with wars. The language reflects the same outcome as it would be today if the words used were translated to modern terms for tanks, guidance missiles, jets.
God is informing Gog and Magog, where Magog is meant to include all the nations, that God will defend Israel so that Gog and Magog's invasion will fail with utter destruction of all of those who came to invade Israel.
The invasion is going to start the awaking of parts of Israel to their God and Messiah Jesus Christ. Ultimately, the Tribulation Period is coming which has the chief purpose of Israel recognizing Jesus Christ as their Savior. Steven, or Stephen, the Disciple is killed by the Sanhedrin when describing how Israel eventually makes the correct choice for what God has provided which is their and our Messiah Jesus Christ.
Scriptural Passage | Notes on passage
Ezekiel 38:17-23 | 17 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Art thou he of whom I spake in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, that prophesied in those days for many years that I would bring thee against them? 18 And it shall come to pass in that day, when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord Jehovah, that my wrath shall come up into my nostrils. 19 For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; 20 so that the fishes of the sea, and the birds of the heavens, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground. | 1. God is greatly offended on what Gog will be attempting, reflected
by "into my nostrils" and "my jealousy". 2. God is going to defend Israel with such furiousness that the effects of it will be felt by nature and all people all over the Earth. 3. God will be magnified and sanctified by the action done by God |
Ezekiel 39:25 | Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Now will I bring back the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel; and I will be jealous for my holy name. | God is doing the protection of Israel because of the promises God made in the past which honors God's name. God is not going to let all Jewish people be completely murdered. |
In The Hebrew words, used in the passages, describe a leaping horse or flying bird along with a chariot-rider, all of which conveys a mechanized military force. Zechariah chapters 12 and 14 speak about Gog and Magog future battle where God fights the battle and has Israel recognize God afterwards.
Some key points:
Zechariah 12:2-11 | 2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. 3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. 4 In that day, saith the Lord, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness. 5 And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the Lord of hosts their God. 6 In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem. 7 The Lord also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah. 8 In that day shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the Lord before them. 9 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. 11 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon. 12 And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart; |
Zechariah 14:1-3 | 1 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. 2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. 3 Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. |
The following is an excerpt from the
Armageddon topic regarding
the First Armageddon Event: Many Christians and non-Christians have all heard about Armageddon and believe the event is meant to be the most frightening military event in all of history because of fighting between different armies that include the 200,000,000 soldier army from the Kings of the East. The name Armageddon is from the name in Hebrew for the area pronounced like Armageddon that has Mount Megiddo near by and a large valley to enable the world's armies to assemble against one another, Revelation 16:16.
Some details of the Armageddon Event that occurs at the end of the Tribulation Period:
All the participants, gathering at the Armageddon Event, are going because of the belief given by the Satanic Realm that their future is in jeopardy unless they go on the offensive to fight in the war. It is a deception, based on "signs and wonders", from the Satanic World as read in Revelation 16:14. Some Biblical Scholars, including this author, believe the deception is using a type of fear that has never been known before this time in Earth's history because of the events in Revelation 16:17-21.
After the first Armageddon Event, the next event is the Millennial Kingdom of Jesus Christ which happens after the Tribulation Period. The 1,000 years of peace is a wonderful time, but the problem is human beings still have the sin judgment where we all are not perfect and still have the sin nature. During the millennial period, Jesus Christ does not allow murder, theft and many other sins, but human still have the desire that has not been dealt with yet. |
There is one more battle attempt by Lucifer which is known as the second Gog and Magog event, and also known as the Second Armageddon Event:
The following is an excerpt from the
1000 Millennial Kingdom of
Jesus Christ: There is still the requirement to accept Jesus Christ through Faith before the end of the Millennial Kingdom to be able to be in Eternity future with God in Heaven. There will be one last rebellion when Lucifer is released from chains in Lower Sheol. Lucifer will deceive many of the nations in one final attempt against Jesus Christ, which is called the final Gog and Magog event. All of those who are present against Jesus Christ will be killed instantaneously by fire from Heaven. After the Second Armageddon Event caused by Lucifer, Gog and Magog is over then the Great White Thrown of Judgment will happen. At this Judgment the Fallen Angels and Demons are judged by Jesus Christ and all human beings who have Salvation, but human being without Salvation, will be judged solely by Jesus Christ.
Points of the passage:
There are two primary questions asked often by Christians concerning
The answer, in a general summary by many Biblical Commentaries, is looking at the different Dispensational Periods of the Earth and how Jesus Christ has always been the answer, solution, reason, gift, and with Him that all human-beings can have life, love, peace, joy and appreciation worship of our God as read in many scriptural passages such as John 10:7-15. During the Millennial Kingdom and after the Millennial Kingdom when Lucifer is released from prison in lower Sheol:

The following is an excerpt from the
Armageddon topic regarding
the Second Armageddon Event: The Second Armageddon Event is not very well-known by Christians
and non-Christians. The Judgment of God against the people who are there is staggering in the ramifications of numbers of human
beings, "the number of whom is as the sand of the sea", that
are at the Second Armageddon Event.
After the second Armageddon Event is over, the next event is the Great White Thrown of Judgment followed by Eternity without evil in the "new Heaven and new Earth". Biblical Scholars sometimes disagree when the Judgment Seat of Christ occurs. Some Biblical Scholars and this author, believe because of God's different Time Domains, that the Judgment Seat of Christ occurs in Earth's time domain after the Tribulation Period, but in Heaven before Eternity starts. The invitation only event called the Wedding Supper of the Lamb happens after the Judgment Seat of Christ in order for the Believing Over-Comers, that are in Heaven prior to the end of the Tribulation Period's end to rule with Jesus Christ during the Millennial Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Everything in the Kingdom of God, which includes Heaven, Earth and the entire Universe will be burnt up and gone after the second Armageddon Event because:
When all the Fallen Angels, Demons, and human beings without Salvation are permanently sent to the Lake of Fire then the New Kingdom of God and New Heavens is permanently established where there will be:
for eternity. All of those who go to the Lake of Fire will not see the New Heavens and New Earth. All those with Salvation will not remember those going to the Lake of Fire as part of the twelve judgments against those going to the Lake of Fire (see point 12).
Note that the scriptures are full of double patterns where the two Armageddon Events are one of many. Biblical Scholars state that God purposely uses patterns in prophecy to teach and reveal Himself to us, and for our understanding of God's absolute control and sovereignty. |
An excerpt from the purpose of all history: The Question How can God who is:
show Perfect Love to a world that is destined to eternal separation from God without a Savior? The answer is given to us in Ephesians 2:4-7, and is often called the purpose of God in all of history and the purpose of eternity future:
In the next verse 8, we will understand that it was by nothing we could have done to inherit and deserve the rewards of Heaven, which will lead us to a greater love of God for eternity.
