Many people that are unfamiliar with many areas of God's Power in Intervention in the scriptures.  Four great areas of God's Power demonstrated is the:

where God had intervened in the Earth's ecology along with universe's planetary procession.  God absolutely still performs miracles for all of us now where we will know the full extent at the Judgment Seat of Christ.

The Parting of the Red Sea event in the Book of Exodus, Chapter 14 is a fascinating and encouraging read which was proceeded by many miracles from God dealing with the release of Israel from the slavery captivity under Egypt.

In a judicial civil litigation, the standard proof is often described as the preponderance of evidence which means the claim is more likely true than not.  There is enough evidence that a crossing of the Red Sea is possible and has actually happened on foot and horse outside of the scriptural account, which makes the scriptural account provable that it can happen from an earthly perspective.

Absolutely, God performed a series of many forms of protection and divine interference in the normal actions of nature.  When reviewing the scriptural account, it is exhilarating and comforting for us to know and respect how God lured in the whole Egyptian Army into the Red Sea while keeping keeping the army separated from Israel.

Napoleon Bonaparte Crossed The Red Sea

In July of 1798, Napoleon Bonaparte with his 30,000 troops landed in Egypt where his ships were destroyed which left them without a supply line back to France.  Napoleon stayed in the area for one year before responding to a declaration of war by the Turkish Sultan, who at one point was thought to be a friend.  The following link, if missing click here, is a synopsis of the time period where there is an excerpt from Bonaparte's diary that on:

"On the morning of the 28th we crossed the Red Sea dry shod...Near the port the Red Sea is not above 1,500 meters wide, and is always fordable at low water...at high tide the water rises five or six feet at Suez, and when the wind blows fresh it often rises nine or ten feet" and apparently Napoleon almost drowned.

From the diary, Napoleon is stating:

  1. His army of 30,000 troops was able to cross in the morning with dry-shod boots which means the water was only a little bit above the human ankles and even dry seabed.
  2. At the end of the crossing the water rose swiftly that almost drowned Napoleon.

While the Suez is not in the specific area of where Biblical Scholars and this author believe Moses guided Israel across the Red Sea, it illuminates the fluctuations in sea water levels that happens naturally on the Red Sea.

There were Two Times God Held back the Waters

After the Red Sea crossing, when God held the water back while the nation of Israel crossed, there was a second time God held the water back.  The second time occurred over 40 years later.

After the Wilderness Wonderings of Israel, and Moses had died, then Joshua lead Israel into the Promise Land.  All those who went into the Promise Land were under the Age of Accountability after the murmuring against God that caused the Wilderness Wonderings described in the Book of Numbers.  Only two adults, Joshua and Caleb, with those that were under 20 years old at the time of the murmuring against were allowed to enter the Promise Land.  Moses was not permitted to enter the Promise Land because of an incident in Deuteronomy, but God showed the land from a mountain top.

Note that the murmuring was after God lead Israel out of Captivity, did many miracles in the exodus, and also shown His presence daily, where Biblical Scholars state that no one should have doubted God's authority, power and leadership when unfortunately Israel did.

Numbers 14:1-4
(See entire preceding chapter and this chapter for more details on Israel's rebellion against God.)
1 Then all the congregation raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night. 2 And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, “Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness! 3Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?” 4 And they said to one another, “Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”
Numbers 14:11-12 11 And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, in spite of all the signs that I have done among them? 12 I will strike them with the pestilence and disinherit them, and I will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.”
Numbers 14:20-25 20 Then the Lord said, “I have pardoned, according to your word. 21 But truly, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord, 22 none of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these ten times and have not obeyed my voice, 23 shall see the land that I swore to give to their fathers. And none of those who despised me shall see it. 24 But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it. 25 Now, since the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwell in the valleys, turn tomorrow and set out for the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.”
Numbers 14:28-33 28 Say to them, ‘As I live, declares the Lord, what you have said in my hearing I will do to you: 29 your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness, and of all your number, listed in the census from twenty years old and upward, who have grumbled against me, 30 not one shall come into the land where I swore that I would make you dwell, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun. 31 But your little ones, who you said would become a prey, I will bring in, and they shall know the land that you have rejected. 32 But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness. 33 And your children shall be shepherds in the wilderness forty years and shall suffer for your faithlessness, until the last of your dead bodies lies in the wilderness.

The interesting scriptural passage not known by many Christians is there was a similar event to the Red Sea parting of the waters, is in Joshua chapter 3 where Israel is about to go into the Promise Land for the first time.  In the entering, they had to cross the Jordan River, where God will hold back the waters a second time.  The Priests of Israel take up the Ark of the Covenant and stand in the river and the water will cease to allow Israel to cross.

Joshua 3:6-13 6 Joshua said to the priests, “Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people.” So they took it up and went ahead of them. 7 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses. 8 Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’”

9 Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. 10 This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. 11 See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. 12 Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. 13 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.”

There are countless Patterns and Double Occurrences in the scriptures that authenticate God's methods, proving Himself, His Love and Authority.

Before a Tsunami, the Water Is Pulled Away

For many, many decades there have been informational news announcements with a warning sign of an impending Tsunami is the water receding a great distance from the beach shore.  This phenomenon  is also easily seen with small ordinary waves, driven by wind on the beach, where the water becomes shallow in front of the wave coming.

In the case of an earthquake, an Earth Fault, or even a human made large enough bomb, the water near the shoreline is dragged back dramatically often exposing area of the seabed that are normally always under seawater.  Depending upon the underwater sea terrain, the difference in time before a Tsunami Wave happens after the water has receded can be a few moments or a

Before a Storm, the Water is often Pulled Away

Before a storm, the water is often pulled away from the shoreline.  This often causes confusion and later drowning by people going out right before the water returns.  The time before the water returning, that can be in high waves, can be several hours.

The causes of water receding and returning a severe storm:

In the United States, there is the City and area of Tamba Bay in Florida that has the water dropping seven feet before storms arrive that exposes the seabed for many hours before rizing again that comes in as a small tidal wave that can be ten feet higher than normal in a storm surge.

The following screen captures is from: Reveal That Moment When 16x9 6s.  Click on link to watch video, and search for hundreds of videos where sea water recedes before storms.  There are many other video such as this one in animation to demonstrate the force.  Watch how the tsunami happens after an earthquake deep in the sea, watch the speed of the waves

Sea Water levels withdraw and do go down at Night

It is a very well-known fact that sea water withdraws from the shoreline and shallow areas because of the gravitational pull of the moon.  The sun also plays a part in the gravitational pull depending upon the period of the year.

This author was in Homer, Alaska and was astounded about the water levels receding that allowed me and others to walk on dry seabed about 30 yards (27.4 meters) offshore where normally the water would have been very deep.   This occurred later in the afternoon and the water did not return until the morning.

On another occasions this author, when staying overnight in Galveston, Texas, has seen the ocean water receding during the night.  Also along the jetties, in Freeport, Texas, when going crabbing in the mornings it is astonishing watching the ocean water to retake six feet of channels at the jetties that upon arrival at 6am would be nearly empty of sea water.

The Crossing by Moses

At the location of Etham, God instructs Moses to camp at Pi-Hairoth near Baal-Zephon at the Red Sea.  Furthermore, God tell the purpose of deceiving Pharaoh where God is going to harden Pharaoh's heart to go after Israel.

Notice these points of Exodus 14:15-20

  1. God informs the Moses that Israel will cross the sea on dry ground.
  2. It was night time and there was a cloud giving light to Israel
  3. Egypt did not attempt to approach the camp of Israel with their chariots, horsemen, and army.
Exodus 14:15-20 15 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward. 16 And lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thy hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground.

17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall go in after them: and I will get me honor upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. 18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am Jehovah, when I have gotten me honor upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. 19 And the angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud removed from before them, and stood behind them: 20 and it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet gave it light by night: and the one came not near the other all the night.

During the night, God provided a strong east wind that made the sea area that they would cross become dry.

Notice these points of Exodus 14:21-23

  1. From the previous verse of Exodus 14:20, Israel was comforted the entire night with His cloud.  The verse also indicates that Israel did not do anything until the morning.
  2. There east wind divided the waters, which indicates there was water on each side of a passage going across the Red Sea.
  3. At first light in the morning, Israel began the crossing.
  4. The Egyptians started their pursuit, and went into the crossing area of the Red Sea.
Exodus 14:21-23 21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and Jehovah caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. 23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

Notice these points of Exodus 14:24-25

  1. While the pursuit was occuring, the Egyptian full army saw the Pillar of Fire and Cloud of God which frightened them.
  2. God also "took off their chariot wheels" which meant the horse pulled the chariots against the ground like the chariots were sleds.
  3. The chariots were also driven "heavily" which confirms that the chariot wheels were not with them.  It is not a very easy task to put back on chariot wheels, and there was no time while the pursuit was underway.
Exodus 14:24-25 24 And it came to pass in the morning watch, that Jehovah looked forth upon the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and discomfited the host of the Egyptians. 25 And He took off their chariot wheels, and they drove them heavily; so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for Jehovah fighteth for them against the Egyptians.

Summary points of Exodus 14:26-31

  1. God instructed Moses to stretch out his hand to have the ocean be released to come "again" upon the Egyptians.  This indicates the ocean water normally was there at the crossing that was used by the Israelites.
  2. The reference "the sea returned in its strength" indicates a great wave came over the Egyptian Army that would have also scattered all of the army so that they would not have been in just one location on the ocean seabed.
  3. Not one of the Egyptians survived.
  4. God maintained a wall of water to the their left, right, and inferred all sides so that no ocean water touched any Israelite.
  5. All of the nation of Israel survived.
  6. Israel was astonished, had great fear (respect) for God, and believed in God.
Exodus 14:26-31 26 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thy hand over the sea that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen. 27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned in its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.

28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them. 29 But the sons of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand and on their left.

30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore. 31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did against the Egyptians; and the people feared the LORD and believed the LORD and his slave Moses.

Has Historical Evidence been Found, was Crossing at Nuweiba, Egypt?

The answer is no, and no at Nuweiba, Egypt.

A quick and easy Internet Search can find that there is false evidence of the Red Sea containing wagon wheels of chariots, horse and human Skelton remains.

Unfortunately, this author has to mention this false information. as anyone viewing this false information, that is not a Christian, will possibly be negatively influenced in rejecting God because of Charlatans putting out propaganda for their own self glorification and monetary enrichment.  Also, well-meaning Christians that come across this false claims may tell others that also will negatively reflect on God

Some points to consider any evidence remaining from the Egyptian Army of Pharaoh after 3,500 years:

There are occasionally verified ancient ships found in rivers and oceans that were either preserved because of their size, by mud encasing, or very frigid waters.  Small chariots and skeletons would not survive that long because of their sizes.

The very well-known Titanic sinking, that has been found, have stated that after the time-span of multiple decades of years that the skeleton remains would have disintegrated before coral could have formed along with becoming food sources for marine life.  Human bodies will initially float after a drowning, and then sink a few days later where the bodies could be great distances away from the initial drowning location.

There is also the traditional belief about a land bridge was used that exists today near Nuweiba, Egypt.  There are other maps and projections that have Israel crossing at the Straits of Tiran.  This author after reviewing many sources is convinced the crossing occurred at the Strait of Tiran, where the wilderness wonderings for 40 years started in the area shown as Saudi Arabia.

Similarity in Red Sea Crossing and Noah's Ark?

There are many Biblical Scholars that believe the Ark of Noah will be found and will be mostly intact.  This author agrees where the difference between finding the Ark of Noah and chariots in the Red Sea is the Ark rested on top of a mountain which very, very cold where snow and ice have most likely covered it till this day.

It is the belief, based on the scriptural evidence, that the Ark of Noah had to have rested in modern-day Iran on top of the Zagros Mountains.  This is the belief by many Biblical Scholars and this author.  Furthermore, the belief is the Ark of Noah will be found in the Tribulation Period as a testimony and witness.

This topic on the Red Sea is bringing up the Ark of Noah because there was a group of most-likely well intentioned Christians claiming the found the Ark of Noah on top of Mount Ararat in modern-day Turkey and that is absolutely false, could not be the location, and the evidence is contrived.  See the topic on the Ark of Noah for more details about it and more information.

Summary Perspective

The following points are summarizing the reliability beyond any reasonable doubt, in a modern-day judicial determination analogy as mentioned at the start of this topic, that Israel crossing the Red Sea absolutely happened.

  1. There is the evidence of Napoleon Bonaparte crossing the Red Sea on foot with 30,000 troops and horses, wagons, and carts.  This is positive proof that it is possible in the morning.
  2. The exact location that God had Israel cross the Red Sea is not provided in the scriptures, and is actually not important to try to map to an exact location in the current Red Sea as after 3,500 years the Red Sea's depth could have easily changed.
  3. The terrain of the area from the beach areas in entry and exiting of the Red Sea is not also provided in the scriptures, and also would have changed after 3,500 years.
  4. There is enough present-day information on sea water receding and returning in high waves that also proves it 100% possible with several types of gravity of the moon, time of the year, and weather conditions.
  5. The scriptures state the crossing happened in the morning and indicates a tidal surge of water that was most likely 20 to 30 feet (6 to 9 meters) higher than the Red Sea's seabed covered the Egyptians where their chariots and bodies were scattered.
  6. There is archeological evidence of the Nation of Israel, called the Hebrews in non-scriptural accounts, were in Egypt as slaves.  Next there a great deal of evidence of the Exodus of the Hebrews to modern-day Israel.  How they traversed the areas between Egypt and the promise land of Israel is also verifiable.  Crossing the Red Sea is not a difficult discussion where the destruction of the Egyptian Army by drowning is a gift of knowledge by God and God's Glory in the scriptures.
