Medical Options

There seems to be no single recipe or cure for baldness and hair loss.  If there was an easy solution then everyone would be using it, and also there wouldn't be any money to be made from pharmaceutical and shampoo companies' solutions.  Below are some recommendations that may work for you

Note: Consult your Doctor if you have any medical conditions that may prevent you from doing any of the following or if you have any concerns.

Some potential Medical options to research with your Doctor, which this author is not endorsing.

Propecia for men Works for many men but can have a side effect of diminished semen.
Electric scalp stimulation May work but there is a great deal of complaints.
Hair Transplants (a) Best choice is using computer grafting devices that grab single hair follicles that will be what is called donors.
(b) The old method of grabbing strips which are then used to grab individual donor follicles will work but leaves scaring for many years from the donor strip area.
(c) Both methods of getting donor hair follicles will not leave a scar in the area "planted".

Problems, Solutions and Notes

There are at least two problems that effect men and women who are losing their hair.  These two problem areas and solutions with notes may be helpful and consulting your Doctor is always a great idea.

Item Problem Solution and Notes
1 Stop using shampoo every day.  Take as many showers or baths as you want and wet your hair without the use of shampoo. Try to only use shampoo twice a week of maybe once every 4 days.  (The author of this topic has stopped using shampoo completely.   With the use of Listerine sometimes and primarily "Scalp Relief - Tea Tree Leave-in", discussed below and blow drying, my hair never looks dirty and my scalp feels great.) Shampoos no matter what they may advertise about being safe for your hair, the hair is not what needs to be kept safe.  What needs to be kept healthy is your hair follicle and your scalp.  Shampoos and soaps can strip the natural oils and can constrict the follicle making it constrict more and more over time until it potentially dies.  Shampoos also appear to also make the scalp thinner with many people.
If you look at photos of previous generations of your family history or photos of economically challenged countries where shampoo is a luxury, you will most likely see a great deal of men and women with thick hair.  Did your ancestors have a secret to have more hair than you or they were doing something different?  The answer, most likely amongst other possibilities, was they did not use shampoo very often or did they not even have shampoos. If you go to a hair replacement clinic, they will tell you in most cases your hair follicles are not completely wide open, like they were when you were young.   They obviously want to sell you a hair transplant, which works, and put you potentially on a prescription like Propecia, which has a great track record.
Excessively oily scalp may be caused by your body having a reaction to hair follicle constriction and trying to compensate for the missing natural scalp oils stripped away by shampoos/soaps.  This is often accompanied by an itchy scalp.   When this occurs, people will try shampooing more often, which can contribute to the hair follicle death.  Note that there is other problems such as excessive dandruff and psoriasis which is not what this topic is discussing.    Besides the pharmaceutical solutions that may work for you, there in one that has been known for decades which will completely surprise many people and can be collaborated by Internet testimonies that it works.  There are two solutions:
1.  Occasionally use the flag ship gold Listerine that does not have the flavors on your scalp.
2.  Use "Scalp Relief - Tea Tree Leave-in"
2 Have you ever noticed, with men who have lost a lot of their hair or have recently gone bald, that their head seems to glisten and be very oily?  After a few years, the oily appearance goes away which is when most if not all of the hair follicles have completely died. After showering/bathing, dry your hair and then apply a very small amount of Listerine over the problem areas or your entire scalp.  Then massage the scalp followed by blow drying your hair.

Notes:

(A) What the Flagship Gold Classic Listerine appears to do for many people is it:

There are some people on the Internet testimonies, have said that some hair restarts growing in areas that were formerly bald or very thin, while other testimonies have said they have stabilized their hair loss.

(B) Tea Tree Oil is been found to help many people with thinning hair and also other problems.  Always consult your Doctor for advise.

Diet

Start eating good servings of fruits and vegetables every single day!  Also supplement your daily diet with daily vitamins and minerals.  Multivitamins, while good, do not have enough of what is recommended for your health.

Vitamins

There are two key vitamins that may have the ability to stop and even potentially reverse the process of hair loss if caught before the hair follicles dies.  Read this PDF document on the topic from Dr Frank Shallenberger's Second Opinion.

  1. L-Cysteine
  2. Selenium
